Dr. B. Goes to Heaven

May 15, 2007 – Dr. Steve Buttgenbach passed away today. A classy, intelligent and wonderful man, Steve served as veterinarian for Allez France when she won the Prix l’Arc de Triomphe in 1974. Later on, he was veterinarian to my small stable. One of my fondest memories of training horses was spending the early summer at Santa Anita during Hollywood Park in 1981. After feeding time in the evening, Steve would come to the barn and have shrimp cocktail and champagne with Linda Giandomenico and I while we commiserated on the events of the day. It was one of the best summers of my life.
